​Westpoint Community: A sense of Togetherness.
The Westpoint community share a unity unlike any other. It stems from forging bonds throughout family generations. We know each other's story by heart. We support each other and look after each other. This is what we teach our guests. 

​History tells us that the first time the Westpoint community came together, it was in 1849 to build a make-shift church. The missionary, Pater Gregorius van Gastel, moved to Westpoint and held Catholic Mass in this humble hut. In due time, the hut was replaced by a sturdy structure of wood, clay and palm leaves. Monsignor Nieuwindt himself visited Westpoint in 1850 to help lay down the first stone in what became the Saint Peter's Church (Parokia San Pedro). It took three years to finish the construction and the remarkable building still stands today. Mass is still held regularly for the community.  

Following the abolition of slavery in 1860, Monsignor Kistenmaker petitioned with the government to establish a convent and a school in Westpoint. The community welcomed the first day of school on January 23, 1865. Children were lovingly taught Catholicism, Reading and Writing.

​Parokia San Pedro Westpunt
The first Catholic church built in Westpoint still stands proud today and is much beloved by the community. Pastor Alphonsus Baak has been our pastor in Westpoint since January 2021 and is always happy to meet with our guests. Visitors of all walks of life are welcome. Please feel free to attend mass with us.

Religious Services are held on:
Wednesdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 10:30am.

This charming little Catholic church is a true hidden gem. It resides close to the famous Playa Lagun. Its iconic design is always worthy of some beautiful pictures. Guests are invited to visit and attend mass with us.
